This one is for all the people out there who are like me: relatively young (college aged) and finding themselves unwilling to be held back by their anxiety any longer. For people it’s different, some develop it in childhood or adulthood, while it’s most commonly seen in the puberty years. Mine came about when I was in high school, probably due to a mixture of stress from trying to maintain a high grade average (to get into a good school) and keeping my parents proud of me (academically, behaviorally, and socially). What started as minor performance anxiety began to leak out into various aspects of my life until I began to experience full-blown social anxiety, finding myself unable to deal with ridiculous stress with something as simple as answering the door when the delivery man arrived with my pizza.

My desire in showing people how to deal with anxiety attacks comes from me delving into the disorder myself and trying out various methods and programs to see what works NATURALLY. I’m also willing to answer simpler questions, such as someone curious about it wondering how does anxiety feel. Other information will be covered such as how long can anxiety symptoms last, and if you need to be concerned if they appear to be recurring (spoiler alert, you definitely do.)   • Try to immediately calm yourself in the moment by adopting a state of mini-meditation. ( )
  • Other methods include taking a time-out to sit and think about what’s happening and how to avoid it, eating well-balanced meals to restore hormonal balance (which may solve your anxiety problem naturally), limiting your intake of alcohol and caffeine, adopting humor or talking to yourself, making sure you get enough sleep, and if all else fails get help from someone you know personally or such for advice online (from sites other than ours obviously if this isn’t helpful enough to solve the issue). We won’t take it personally.

How does Anxiety Feel?

Do you suspect you’re beginning to suffer from anxiety but aren’t quite sure yet? Some people have trouble recognizing whether or not they are having a panic attack, or are unaware of many obvious warning signs that a panic attack is imminent if they don’t make a change as soon as possible. Here are some signs that you are currently dealing with mounting anxiety:

  • You’ll feel nervous at random times, and often get a sense of powerlessness.
  • You may also feel weak or tired sporadically.
  • Difficulty concentrating on anything other than your current symptoms.
  • Sweating.
  • Hyperventilation.

These symptoms are most often triggered by a specific situation or setting. For example, if you suffer from social anxiety you’ll be hit by these symptoms while meeting new people, while being put on the spot, or even while ordering food from a cashier. How does anxiety feel can be answered differently depending on which type of anxiety you have.

Meanwhile, Panic Attacks are more intense. Some symptoms include:

  • Sharply elevated heart beat
  • Nausea
  • Uncontrollable trembling
  • A feeling of impending doom
  • The triggering of your innate “fight or flight response”
  • Difficulty hearing or concentration on anything outside of your body
  • Feeling a shortness of breath or as though your chest is constricted
  • Head pressure ( as though your head is being squeezed )

How Long Can Anxiety Symptoms Last

Once a person has identified themselves to be at risk, and knows how does anxiety feel, the next question is exactly how long can anxiety symptoms last and whether or not they will be resolved on their own. And the truth of the matter, although I’m sure many people will be disappointed by the answer, is that it all just depends. You have to identify what is your unique anxiety trigger first of all, and then from there you can run tests to see how exactly it is triggered, how fast it comes up, and how long it takes to go away after you remove yourself from your trigger.

If your trigger is something you commonly have to engage in or interact with, your anxiety symptoms are going to remain until you find a way to fight them or you flat out change your lifestyle in order to no longer have to come in contact with your trigger. If you suffer from social anxiety, this would mean withdrawing from society entirely to avoid you trigger: other people.

The best thing you can do to learn how to calm anxiety quickly is to start by arming yourself with information so you know what your anxiety is and how it comes about. From there, you can begin to fight it in a realistic way (and as we all know, knowing is half the battle).

How to Calm Anxiety Quickly

Once you’ve identified that you are indeed dealing with anxiety, social anxiety or stress induced, and your symptoms show no sign of alleviating themselves, it’s time to take action.

As you get better at meditating for longer periods of time, you’re effectively training yourself to shut out all noise you wish to ignore to focus on one specific thing, in these cases it’d be your body and how you’re reacting to your anxiety, what is causing said anxiety, and how to calm anxiety quickly by fixing whatever the current trigger is.

Check your diet and lifestyle. It’s very possible you’re eating foods that are throwing your hormones out of whack and causing your anxiety in the first place. Make sure you’re eating a balanced diet and that you’re getting enough sleep, engaging in enough exercise, and keeping your stress to a minimum.

A quick note: If you’re going to try out the exercise to relieve anxiety and stress, don’t feel pressured to become a total “gym bro” or become obsessed with “maximizing ur gains brah”. The working out is primarily a medication you’re giving yourself to deal with a mental issue, although you can take it more seriously once you’ve seen tangible results that you’re proud of. Don’t be intimidated to enter a gym either, thinking that everyone might be sizing you up or judging you because they are more in-shape than you, or perhaps your form with an exercise is less than up-to-par. No one cares. It’s called personal fitness for a reason! Many people in the gym are far too engrossed in their own problems to worry about judging you, and if they make the time to they are probably losers themselves.

As you guys know, we here at SteamSpoils are not afraid to deliver a negative review if we are suggested to review a product and find it…unsatisfactory to say the least. And I have to say, that as far as this program goes…. This is not the case. I’m not sure how Joe Barry did it, but he managed to coin the ideal system for fighting off panic attacks and anxiety in general. Panic Away is a program developed by Joe Barry, full name Barry Joe McDonagh (more on him below). He created this program to help people around the world deal with their anxiety and avoid panic attacks – a subject that he is personally attuned to because he himself found that he was prone to these issues since he was young. Panic Away is very decently detailed, containing more than 70 chapters and even some sub-chapters, although the sub-chapters are brief and just serve to supplement the book without harming its readability. Instead, Barry’s approach is that you have to realize your feelings aren’t your enemy, and need to be embraced in order to stop them from being so cumbersome. Who is Joe Barry?

Joe Barry is a native of Ireland and who developed his anti-anxiety plan as he was studying at the University College of Dublin (UCD is extremely competitive). His thoughts on anxiety and panic disorders were so groundbreaking that they were actually published in 2001. Despite this success, it’s important to note in this review that Barry is not a psychiatrist or psychologist – or at least he is not certified as one. It was his personal experience suffering panic attacks, especially during his college years, that drove him towards refining his methods for treating anxiety.   • Mr. Barry makes claims that can not ALL be validated. He promises that the techniques can work for everybody with no exceptions, which is an extremely strong claim for anyone to make in any situation. I’m not so sure about that one! There are no guarantees with ANY treatment.
  • The book is definitely skewed more towards personal anecdotes and examples than it is scientifically proven information. I know the science is solid from trying the book, but the average reader won’t trust it and honestly has no reason to. Weak point for Barry.
  • Barry has a lot of confidence in this program, which results in him offering no back-up plan in case it doesn’t work for someone. So either you like his program and it works, or you don’t and you get your money back and are stuck without a cure for anxiety or a cure for panic attacks. I’ve been in that world and I’d prefer if others didn’t have to remain in it.
